I often describe positive psychology and strengths as a lens through which we can gain a different perspective on our life. By looking at ourselves and others and paying attention to strengths, things to appreciate and be grateful for and opportunities to express our empathy and compassion we change our experience in the world.
However we don’t always have the resources to do this. And in those moments it’s important to take a step back from wanting to be better. Yes overall it’s healthier to be optimistic and appreciative. But nothing horrible happens if we can’t be like that every day. We should take our day off guilt free. Otherwise guilt gets associated with all the great stuff we want to do and become.
