Humans compare things all the time. If the comparison turns out in our favour we feel good, if it doesn’t we need to do something to explain it away. One of the most popular ways of explaining other people’s success away is by

What I love about life is the multitudes of ways you can learn the same lesson. Working, playing soccer or sailing a boat are all ways we can learn about teams and our place in them.

Friendships, parents and lovers can all teach us about love.

Martial arts, race car driving and taking our dog for a walk help us explore our bodies.

The only exception I can think off the top of my head is programming 🙂 . Most other things can be picked up in a variety of ways.

When you make an extra-effort to save time, know exactly how to use those extra fifteen minutes you have ‘gained’. If the effort to save time results in added stress you might actually lose time: time you could have been a happier version of yourself. It’s not always a trade-off between saving time and being happy. But it’s good to know when it is.

When we clean out the pantry we throw out everything for which the expiration date has passed. Every once in a while we should examine our thoughts about ourselves and the world. If they are limiting we should ask ourselves: is this still true or have I evolved? Is this still true or has the world evolved?

How would you treat someone who came running as fast as she could and said: ‘watch out, this person is not taking you seriously and if you don’t do something now, things will not pan out the way you had agreed it would.’ If this warning were true I would be grateful to the messenger.

We all get such messages, multiple times a day. Yet more often than not instead of taking action we read more …

It’s surprisingly hard to express gratitude every chance we get or to see the light side of things more often, even if we put our mind to it. In fact trying to increase or decrease any behaviour is often challenging because we a) simply forget or b) read more …

Free is supposed to be straightforward: you pay nothing and receive something. Except that even free stuff takes your time. Time you could spend doing things that need to be done or truly matter to you.

It’s easy to not know how much we matter. Even to strangers. Emotions are like good or bad viruses and influence the behaviour of people we have never even met. That’s not something you should worry about when you are going through a rough time. It’s something to consider when you are feeling okay. Small choices matter. Almost every single one of them is a read more …

Did you enjoy homework at school? Chances are that if you didn’t you were conditioned to resist them. All the ‘this sucks’ and ‘I want to play’ got filed away in your brain and are recalled, minus the memories, which would give you a clue, where the resistance is coming from. So every chance we get to do exercises to grow or become fitter is a reason for read more …

One reason we fail to be motivated to do self-help exercises and other things which are good for us is that they are delivered one dimensionally: words only. Not words painting an image or words forming a story but functional naked read more …
